RSS Feed - What the Are and How to Use Them.

In the past, the only way to receive notice of updates or new articles, blogs, or other postings on your favorite websites was to visit your favorite sites frequently or to subscribe to an email newsletter. With "Really Simple Syndication" (RSS), you can subscribe to your favorite content on this and other sites and receive notifications of updates and new content on your RSS feed.

The real benefit you receive from RSS feeds over email newsletter subscriptions and other alternatives is that you, the user, control the content of the RSS feeds to which you subscribe. Since you, the user, control the RSS feed reader, you control whether or not the feed is obtained from the websites so you do not have the hassle of email newsletter publishers who never seem to get the email asking you to remove your email address from their subscribers list. With RSS, should the quality of the content of one of your feeds decreases, you merely click a button to drop that feed from your list of subscriptions.

Kokensparger + Ryan uses RSS and social networking to post announcements of new blog, article, story, and news content for those who are interested. If you are interested in subscribing to any of our RSS feeds, and you have an RSS feed reader, you need only click on one of the orange icons in the corner of the content window to subscribe.

If you do not have an RSS feed reader, you can obtain one for free through services such as Google Reader, My Yahoo, Newsburst, or Bloglines. These services only require that you establish a free account (i.e. for google, one would establish a gmail account and then add on Google Reader).

If you are a little more computer savvy and adding an RSS feed reader to your web browser is not right for you, other options exist for stand-alone software for windows, which are a bit more complicated, or add-ons for Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, and other popular email programs so that RSS feeds are obtainable through your email software. To pursue compatible stand-alone or email add-on options, we would suggest visiting the website for your operating system (i.e. Microsoft.com for windows or Outlook, Mozilla.com for Thunderbird) to see what options are available and obtain download and installation instructions.

NOTICE: KOKENSPARGER + RYAN DOES NOT RECOMMEND ADDING ANY RSS FEEDS TO A COMPUTER THAT IS ACCESSIBLE TO THE OPPOSING PARTY IN A DIVORCE OR OTHER FAMILY LAW CASE OR ANYONE WHOM YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING YOUR INTERESTS IN THESE TOPICS (I.E. A SPOUSE WHERE DIVORCE IS CONTEMPLATED, CHILDREN IN THE HOUSEHOLD IF CUSTODY IS CONTEMPLATED, ETC ...)
