STEP #5: UNDERSTAND THE DIVORCE PROCESS

In Ohio, the ability to grant a divorce is given to the judges of the civil division of the county courts of common pleas. The system is an adversarial system, with both parties being entitled to a trial if they wish and with the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure and the Ohio Rules of Evidence fully applicable. This being the case, some aspects of the process will seem cold, harsh, and mechanical to the parties. Thus, it is important that you develop a good rapport with your attorney and ask questions about anything you do not fully understand.
